Wyomissing Pennsylvania may be known in Pop Culture circles as childhood home of Grammy and 2011 Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the year winner Taylor Swift but did you know that 2007, other Notables are actress Megan Gallagher, and Playwright Douglass Carter Beane- Tony Nominated for his Broadway play Xanadu and the screenplay of To Wong fu thanks for everything Julie Newmar Money Magazine honored with top 100,and contender for top 10 spot for best places to live in the State of Pennsylvania. The name “Wyomissing” is from the Lenape Indian‘s Delaware language meaning the land of the flats. In 1906 the community was officially incorporated into borough. In 1949 the community of Berkshire Heights was added to the Boro, and 2002 Wyomissing Hills was merged in as well.

Wyomissing is a thriving business, commercial retail office district as well as a premier residential community. As a first time visitor to Wyomissing, you will majestic tree lined streets and stately turn of the Century homes and Mansions. The community encourages its residents to walk and the sidewalks are always dotted with residents walking to the nearby Wyomissing Park, or Reading Public Museum and planetarium for a Sunday show. The municipality owns the Historic “Stone House” in the Wyomissing Park. As a resident you can reserve this for private parties Additionally the community offers summer concerts in the park, a 4th of July Parade, and numerous Holiday activities from an Easter Egg hunt to the lighting of the tree adding a sense of nostalgia .

Having lived in the Borough, I always loved the convenience to shopping (VF Outlet Complex and Designer Square), Boscov’s Department Store, and the Berkshire Mall. There are all the popular chain restaurants as well as trendy night spots and eateries such as Kitchen in Building 24 Kitchen www.bldg24.com, Viva, Azteca Mexican Restaurant, and Tokyo Sushi. Many boutiques, galleries, coffee houses and delicious restaurants are a walk able distance along the trendy Penn Ave and Park Roads in Wyomissing and neighboring West Reading Borough.

There’s even an Amish farmers market open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Most consider Wyomissing as an affluent area, which it is, however you don’t have to be a millionaire to reside there. The Founding fathers of the community laid out a comfortable mix of homes, styles and price point that work harmoniously together. They added a service alley behind the homes in the Old Wyomissing area as to protect the ascetics of the curb appeal. Whether you in the market for a 6 bedroom grand colonial home or a character rich twin with wood burning fireplace the community Price points start in the $100,000 range and can go exceed 2 million. There are several premium Wyomissing Condo communities such as Wyomissing Meadows, Valley Green, Seven Oaks, Tennis Park, and Wyomissing Court. Pride of ownership is evident here, and residents are constantly reinvesting back into their homes, gardens and community. It’s no wonder its ranked one of the best communities in the state!

Leading Employers in the area are Penn National Gaming, Sovereign Bank, Carpenter technologies, UGI, Boscov’s Department Store, numerous medical, legal, real estate, insurance and investments

The Borough is served by the Wyomissing Area School District which includes Wyomissing Hills Elementary Center serving grades K-4, West Reading Elementary Center Serving grades 5-6 and the Wyomissing Area Jr and Senior High School Campus servicing grades 7-12. Please note; there is a section of the former Wyomissing Hills and all of Berkshire Heights that are serviced by the Wilson School District even though they are part of the Wyomissing Borough. Additionally the West Reading Boro is serviced by the Wyomissing School District. Penn State Berks Campus is located in Wyomissing Area.
