There is much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Holiday. The economy in an odd way is bringing families back together again as in historical days. Aging baby boomers are moving in with their children to save money and share the task of child care. Studies show that the percentage of men aged 25 to 34 who live with their parents grew by almost a third during the past five years! Are they just missing the home cooked meal and convenient in house laundry or is it the boomerang theory was children returned home from college or the military or because of job lost. Regardless of the cause, negative as it may be there is good in it and it’s called "Family togetherness".

The number of households comprising three generations rose to almost 5.1 million in 2010 from 3.9 million a decade before according to the census. At least 40% of our buyers at Sands & Company Real Estate are interested in homes that offer a finished basement with full kitchen and a second master suite for the possibility of family members now or in the near future moving in to share expenses or for assistance with child care.

Toll Brothers, Pennsylvania-based builder and the largest U.S. builder of luxury homes, is now offering kitchenettes and second master bedrooms as an option in its “midsized” houses, which are as small as 3,200 square feet

In my opinion this trend is a good thing. Over indulgence grew in the early to mid 2000s with the big is better philosophy. The average home was a mansion then and now they are being traded in for a more practically sized home with comfortable room sizes that build conversation and togetherness of their occupants.
