Having a security system is a theft deterrent for your home. In addition to break in monitoring, most systems come with fire monitoring when smoke is detected, the system will sound to alert you, but will also summon emergency personnel to your home. I had my home equipped with a temp guard so that if I am traveling, the monitoring service will notify me when my home is without heat. A security system is added bonus when selling your home.
